The Savoy today introduces its Book Butlers offering a brand new service, and first of its kind, as part of its ongoing literary programme. Overseeing a collection of 40 titles presented in a beautifully illustrated library menu, the Savoy Book Butlers will be on hand to accommodate suite guests’ literary needs.
The service was dreamt up by Damian Barr, Literary Ambassador to The Savoy, award-winning writer, columnist and salonnière. Damian has been hosting his renowned Literary Salons in the glittering Lancaster Ballroom since 2016, inviting established and emerging stars to share new stories and reveal their own personal tales.  Damian has also helped the hotel revigorate and relaunch their Writer in Residence programme at the end of 2018 with best-selling author Sarah Perry (After Me Comes The Flood, The Essex Serpent and Melmoth), and upcoming residents including Aminatta Forna and Garth Greenwell.
Damian collaborated with some of The Savoy’s own book loving colleagues to curate this bespoke mini library, available for all suite guests looking for a good read during their stay.  The library will be updated seasonally to include the latest and most relevant titles. Children’s in-room libraries are also available to entertain younger Savoy guests.

Damian Barr’s Literary Salon:
Where the world’s greatest writers tell new tales and reveal their own stories...
Damian Barr started his Literary Salon at Shoreditch House in 2008 kick-starting a revolution in live literature. The Salon is a unique mix of established and emerging writers and always includes at least one world premiere. It’s where David Nicholls launched One Day and Caitlin Moran unveiled her Moranifesto. Guests include Helen Fielding, Brett Easton Ellis, Sathnam Sanghera, Jojo Moyes, John Waters, Diana Athill & Mary Beard. Home at The Savoy since 2016 Damian has hosted some extraordinary writers. Maggie O’Farrell electrified with the premiere of This Must Be The Place, Susan Calman had everyone crying with her as she revealed her memoirs and Yaa Gyasi gripped the room with Homegoing, her novel of slavery and survival. The Savoy hosted two salons in 2018 and featured world premieres from Patrick Gale, Sarah Perry and Graham Norton.

Every Salon adds more stories.  Over 100 interviews are available on iTunes and the Salon is podcast on British Airways. The audience is equally diverse and distinguished. Regular attendees include: Patrick Gale, Polly Samson, David Gilmour, Tracey Thorn, Rachel Johnson and Kirsty Wark. The Salon pops up all over the world in locations including NYC, Sao Paolo, Sydney, Moscow, Istanbul and San Francisco. Partners include Hay, Man Booker and the BBC.
